2. Vacancy & Salary Details

This recruitment is purely on a temporary and contractual basis. The tenure of the appointment is initially for a period of one year, extendable subject to satisfactory performance.

3. Eligibility Criteria

Note: The prescribed date for determining the upper age limit, educational qualifications, or experience shall be the last date for submitting applications.

Educational Qualification

• Minimum Qualification: Ph.D. in Computer Science / Meteorology or in any other relevant quantitative fields.
• Candidates who have submitted their thesis may also apply.

Age Limit

• The applicant must be not more than 35 years of age as of the last date of application submission (15.05.2026).
• Age relaxation commensurate with educational qualifications and/or experiences may be considered for applicants having qualifications and experience higher than the advertised, with prior approval of the competent authority.

Preferences

• Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas will be preferred:
  • Experience with Python, in particular with data analysis libraries such as pytorch and scikit-learn.
  • Experience in handling meteorological datasets.
  • Prior experience in analyzing meteorological processes in numerical weather models, global circulation models, or AI weather models.

4. Job Requirements

• The selected candidate will be required to investigate state-of-the-art deep learning weather models and study how well they represent the physics of the atmosphere.
• The candidate will be required to present their work regularly at conferences, workshops, and in scientific journals.
• They will also be required to work together in collaborative projects with doctoral students and postgraduate students who are part of the group.

The selection process and shortlisting criteria are as follows:

• Candidates will be initially screened based on their educational qualifications and experience.
• The list of shortlisted candidates for the selection process, along with the date, time, and other details, will be published on the institute's website below the advertisement. Candidates will be informed by e-mail only.
• No TA/DA will be admissible for appearing for the interview.
• If the number of applications received is large, the Screening Committee may restrict the number of candidates called for the interview to a reasonable limit by taking into consideration qualifications and experience over and above the minimum prescribed.
