Technician Apprentice Recruitment 2026
50 vacancies across four engineering disciplines — here's everything you need to know before you apply.
📋 Quick Reference
Introduction
A Government Apprenticeship That Actually Pays Well
If you hold a diploma in engineering and have been looking for a credible, government-backed apprenticeship, the Ordnance Factory Bhandara (OFB) has just opened its doors. Operating as a unit of Munitions India Limited (MIL) under the Ministry of Defence, this factory in Maharashtra is inviting applications for 50 Technician Apprentice positions across four engineering trades.
Unlike many government apprenticeships that are unpaid or barely compensated, OFB Bhandara offers a stipend of ₹10,900 per month — a meaningful amount, especially for fresh diploma holders just starting their professional journey. Training runs for one full year under the Apprentice Act, 1961 (as amended in 1973, 2014, and 2019), giving you structured, factory-floor exposure in one of India's premier defence manufacturing setups.
Below, we've broken down every critical detail — trades, vacancies, eligibility, documents, and the application process — so you can apply with complete confidence before the deadline.
Key Dates
Mark Your Calendar Right Now
There are just two dates you need to burn into memory for this recruitment. Missing either one means your application is automatically out of the picture.
Since applications go by post only, plan to dispatch your envelope at least 5–7 working days before April 11. The factory will not be liable for postal delays, and no late applications will be accepted under any circumstances.

Compensation
What You'll Earn During Training
Every Technician Apprentice at OFB Bhandara receives a fixed monthly stipend of ₹10,900 throughout the one-year training period. This is paid as per the provisions under the Apprentice Act.
Beyond the stipend, selected apprentices are also entitled to medical treatment at O.F. Bhandara as per OFMR norms. Accommodation may be available on payment, subject to availability.
One thing to be absolutely clear about: completion of apprenticeship training does not guarantee a job at the factory. This is a training programme, not a recruitment drive for permanent positions. Think of it as one of the strongest stepping stones you can add to your resume — factory-floor experience in a defence establishment carries real weight.
Eligibility Criteria
Do You Qualify? Read This Carefully
Age Requirement
The minimum age to apply is 14 years. There is no upper age limit. However, candidates between 14 and 18 years of age cannot independently sign the apprenticeship contract — their guardians will need to sign on their behalf as they are legally classified as minors.
Educational Qualification
You need a Diploma in the relevant engineering field (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics). The diploma must be:
- Granted by a State Council or Board of Technical Education established by a State Government
- OR a Diploma in Engineering/Technology from a University
- OR from an Institute recognised by the State/Central Government as equivalent to the above
- Completed through regular (full-time) mode only — distance or part-time diplomas are not eligible
Critical Gap Clause — Don't Miss This
If more than five years have passed since you completed your diploma, you are NOT eligible. Practically speaking, candidates who completed their diploma before 15th April 2021 cannot apply for this recruitment.
Who Is NOT Eligible
- Diploma holders who already have one year or more of training/job experience after completing the diploma
- Candidates who completed a Sandwich Course diploma and have passed the final examination
- Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training anywhere under the Apprentice Act
- Candidates who hold a Graduate or Post-Graduate qualification
- Anyone whose previous apprenticeship contract was terminated
Selection Process
How Winners Are Picked — No Exam, Pure Merit
This is one of the genuinely refreshing things about this recruitment: there is no written test, no aptitude exam, and no interview. Selection is entirely based on academic merit.
Your rank on the merit list will be calculated using the aggregate percentage of marks across all years of your final-year diploma examination. After the merit list is published, shortlisted candidates will be called for Document Verification, followed by a Medical Examination and a Police Verification Report.
If your marksheet shows grades instead of percentages, you must attach a document from your college/university that converts your CGPA/SGPA into an equivalent percentage. Without this, your application will be disqualified.
Documents Required
Prepare This Checklist Before You Apply
All documents must be self-attested photocopies unless specifically mentioned otherwise. Keep originals ready for the Document Verification stage.
- Diploma Certificate & Final Year Consolidated Mark Sheet (both sides printed)
- Aadhaar Card
- Age Proof — preferably your SSC (Class 10) Certificate
- Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) with a recent, valid Non-Creamy Layer Certificate for OBC candidates
- PwBD Certificate, if applicable
- Declaration / Affidavit (format provided in the notification)
- Two Character Certificates, each from a different Gazetted Officer (required at Document Verification)
- Police Clearance Certificate (required at Document Verification)
- CGPA/SGPA conversion document from your college/university, if your marks are in grade format
Declaration / Affidavit — What Type Do You Need?
Everyone needs to submit a declaration stating they haven't undergone apprenticeship training anywhere before. The type of document depends on how long ago you completed your diploma:
- Less than 1 year gap: A self-signed affidavit is sufficient
- 1 to 5 year gap: A Court Affidavit on ₹100 stamp paper, signed by a Magistrate or Notary, is mandatory

Other Important Information
A Few More Things Worth Knowing
Dress Code
Once selected and reporting for training, apprentices must wear a plain Navy-Blue trouser paired with a plain Sky-Colour shirt. This is a uniform requirement, not optional.
Communication Policy
The factory will communicate with candidates exclusively via email. Phone calls and messages will not be entertained. This means your email ID must be active, regularly checked, and valid throughout the recruitment process. Similarly, keep your registered mobile number active until the entire process concludes.
Quota Flexibility
If sufficient candidates aren't available in a specific trade, the factory may fill positions by shifting eligible candidates to other available subject fields — provided training facilities exist for those fields at OFB Bhandara.
Reserved category seats that cannot be filled may be adjusted per the applicable rules under the Apprentice Act.
Caution
Watch Out for Fraudsters
The factory has explicitly warned that unscrupulous elements may approach candidates promising to secure apprenticeship or guarantee a job in exchange for money or favours. Do not fall for such claims. The factory bears no responsibility if a candidate is misled by any such individual at any stage. If approached, report it and stay away.

Final Word
Should You Apply?
If you're a fresh diploma holder in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering — and you completed your course after April 2021 — this is a genuinely strong opportunity. A ₹10,900 monthly stipend, one year of structured training in a government defence facility, and a formal contract registered with the Board of Apprenticeship Training (BOAT) all add up to a resume-building experience that's hard to replicate elsewhere.
The fact that selection is merit-based with no exam also means you don't need to prepare for competitive tests — your diploma marks will do the talking. So if your academic record is solid, start gathering your documents today.
Deadline: 11 April 2026. Don't wait until the last week.
